CSA Z434 - Industrial Robots and Robot Systems - General Safety Requirements

Robots are machines specifically designed and programmed to perform certain operations and are a reality in today’s workplaces. They are used in a variety of applications such as spray painting, arc and spot-welding, materials handling, assembly, and machine loading and unloading. However, the use of industrial robots brings hazards such as impact, crushing, trapping, stabbing and electrocution. Applying safety standards for using industrial robots reduces the risk of workplace injuries while increasing productivity. The latest edition of CSA Z434 applies to the manufacture, remanufacture, rebuild, installation, safeguarding, maintenance, repair, testing and start-up, as well as personnel training requirements for industrial robots and robot systems.

Highlights of Z434 Include:

  • Clearly outlines the requirements for industrial robot manufacture, remanufacture, and rebuild
  • Includes safeguarding methods to enhance the safety of personnel
  • Includes robot system integration/installation
  • Provides guidance on personnel training requirements
