A165 SERIES-04 - CSA Standards on Concrete Masonry Units (Consists of A165.1, A165.2 and A165.3)

Intended Use

The CSA A165 Series of Standards provides requirements for the manufacture of concrete block masonry units suitable for load bearing and non-load bearing applications, hollow and solid concrete brick units, and properties of masonry units prefaced during manufacturing.

CSA A165.1 applies to concrete block masonry units. It classifies concrete block masonry units by facets, and provides requirements for materials, physical requirements, inspection, testing, strength, and marking. Non-mandatory information is also provided on subjects such as appearance, fire resistance, acoustical properties, thermal, strength, shrinkage, moisture control, as well as type and use of units.

CSA A165.2 applies to hollow and solid concrete brick units. It identifies two grades of units (Grade I & Grade II), and provides requirements for materials, physical requirements, inspection, testing, and strength.

CSA A165.3 applies to concrete masonry units, both block and brick, having integral facings on one
or two sides in gloss, semi-gloss, or matte finish. It provides requirements for materials, facing, sampling and testing, and packaging.
