Course Overview

Part of a Resiratory Program based on CSA Z94.4 & Z180.1

The quality of breathing air and maintenance of SCBA equipment is a critical aspect of any respiratory protection program. For the Fire Service, SCBA use and re-filling of cylinders is often a daily event. The importance of providing good quality breathing air for use in SCBA’s requires an understanding of the installation, operation, inspection and maintenance of breathing air compressors. The inspection and safe filling of air bottles must be part of an effective respiratory program. To assist fire departments and industry in meeting their obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and due diligence requirements, CSA Group has worked in collaboration with members of the Ontario Fire Service, Office of the Fire Marshal and the Fire Service Section 21 Committee to develop a one-day training session for fire department SCBA Administrators. Fire Fighters Guidance Note #4-9, dated January 2007 recommends that Program Administrators take this CSA Group course. The information in this course is essential for any organization using SCBA’s and breathing air compressors.

A combination of presentations and group activites with a seasoned instructor will help you learn how to conduct respirator fit testing in accordance with CSA Z94.4 ‐ Selection, Use and Care of Respirators.

You will work on a variet of respirators including filtering facepieces elastomeric half, and full facepiece for their familiarization and participation.
