Course Overview

Designing, constructing, operating and maintaining Canadian pipelines require not only specific skill sets but intimate knowledge of the requirements of the new sixth edition of CSA Z662 Oil & Gas Pipeline Systems. CSA Z662 is now a National Standard of Canada, and is referenced in all federal, provincial and territorial regulations.

The first two days review the basic requirements and rationale for Z662, the potential issues it addresses and how it relates to your daily job functions. On day three the instructor delves into the nuances of Section 3 and the application of Annex A in the Safety and Loss management systems, including Integrity Management issues related to Design and Materials procurement.

You'll take what you learned in the classroom and apply it on-the-job, with the objective of maintaining a safe workplace and helping to prevent and control risk of environmental incidents during various phases of pipeline installation.

You'll learn about key changes in the new edition of the standard including:

  • Safety/loss management systems and engineering assessments
  • Integrity management programs
  • Clarification of the “sour service” clause application to service fluids / pipeline systems
  • Detailed training on the Safety and Loss Management requirements related to the Design process
  • Guidance for system control, monitoring and protection of liquid pipelines in the new Annex M
